Fun fact: I find whipping up skincare DIYs during those lazy weekends kinda therapeutic. It's ‘me time’ in the purest form—where I turn into an amateur scientist and experiment with different ingredients to come up with something that can work wonders on my skin. Ofcourse, the internet is a great source of information and I often find myself inspired by ingredients that people are working with; plus I also tinker with my granny’s age-old beauty recipes and give ‘em a new update. This time though, I decided to delve deeper into vegan DIYs, AKA home remedies with only plant-based ingredients excluding dairy (milk, yogurt, ghee etc.) as well as honey.
Lucky for me (and you), there’s no dearth of purely vegan skincare DIYs.

Avocado Face Mask
Ingredients: ½ mashed avocado, 1 tsp lemon juice, ½ tsp coconut oil
Method: Mash the avocado in a bowl and mix it with lemon juice and coconut oil. Slather this on your face and wait for 15-20 minutes before rinsing it off. Your skin will feel instantly fresh, moisturized and soft. PS: This recipe works great if your avocados are overripe as well!
Aloe Vera Body Scrub
Ingredients: 1 cup aloe vera gel, 1.5 cup of sea salt/Himalayan pink salt, ½ cup of almond oil, 10-12 drops of lavender essential oil
Method: Mix all the ingredients together in a glass jar. You can adjust the amount of salt in this DIY as per your preference. Use this 2 times a week for smooth, refreshed skin!
Flaxseed Face Mask
Ingredients: 2 tbsp ground flax seeds, 1 tsp water, 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
Method: Add the ground flax seeds to water and ACV and let it soak for 10-15 minutes. After 15 minutes you will notice that the mixture resembles a thick consistency. If it’s too watery, add some more ground flax seeds to it. Apply on your face and wait for 20-25 minutes before rinsing it off. You can also replace the flax seeds with chia seeds. This mask will instantly tighten your pores and detoxify your skin.
Coffee, Cocoa & Oatmeal Face Scrub
Ingredients: 1 tbsp ground coffee beans, 1 tbsp cocoa powder, 1 tbsp ground oatmeal, 1 tbsp coconut oil
Method: Add all the dry ingredients in a bowl. Next add coconut oil to this mix to attain a grainy consistency that somewhat sticks together. Add more coconut oil if needed. Apply this delicious mixture (it smells oh so good) on your face and lightly rub your skin in circular motions for 60-90 seconds. You can then wash this off or even keep it on for 10 minutes. Follow this up with a light moisturizer.
Banana Turmeric Mask
Ingredients: 1 ripe banana, 1/4th tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp ground orange peel
Method: This one’s like a smoothie for your skin. Start by mashing the banana; next, add the turmeric powder and ground orange peel to the mix. Apply this on your skin and let it marinate in the goodness for around 20-25 minutes before rinsing it off. Result: Healthy, supple and glowing skin under an hour!
