Nykaa Top 50: Best Lip Moisturising Balms From A Beauty Editor’s Desk

Do you know what’s common between celebs like Ariana Grande, Hailey Bieber, Selena Gomez, Drew Berrymore, Deepika Padukone, Kriti Sanon, and Indian content creator Mrunal Panchal? They all own brands that offer lip care products to millions of people (like me) who are crazy about all things lips.

My obsession with lip balms started as a youngling in school when I was not allowed to wear any makeup, but lip balms were considered okay since they were nourishing and hydrating for my dry, cracked lips. I would carry my little Nivea lip balm with me everywhere and apply it every chance I got. Older me is so proud of that kid because I still have baby-soft lips all the time and that habit of replenishing moisture is still going strong.

Today, lip balms are more than just moisture boosters for the lips. They are available with a tint that offers a beautiful colour payoff while others are formulated with SPF to protect our fragile lips from the sun. As someone who has tried her fair share of lip moisturising products, I’m sharing the top 50 lip balms, glosses, oils, and glazes that everyone should know about. Scroll on!

Tinted Lip Moisturising Balms

Tinted lip moisturisers are great if you want a little colour on your lips but don’t want to indulge in lipsticks that tend to dry your lips out. Add a lip liner and you will have yourself a whole look that’s glowing, gorgeous, and giving.

SPF-Infused Moisturising Lip Balms

If you think SPF is only for your face and body, then think again. Your lips have a weaker skin barrier than any other part of your body and thus it requires more love, attention, and of course, UV protection. Check out these amazingly affordable lip cream for dry lips that’s infused with SPF protection.

Kid’s Corner

If lip balms weren’t already fun, we are here with suggestions that are going to make your kid’s day. These cutesy, fun, and adorable moisturisers for lips are fun, playful, and efficient for kids’ baby soft lips.

Pure Indulgence

If money is no object, I would spend thousands of rupees on lip balms alone. They are more than a guilty pleasure, they satisfy the inner kid in me who always wandered around with soft, glowy lips. As an adult with disposable income, here are a few lip balms that I wouldn’t mind shelling out a few bucks on.

Ultra-Hydrating

I saved the greats for last, these are some of the best lip moisturisers for women, men, and children alike. They are great for dry lips, especially during the winter season. They heal cracked lips like nobody’s business and the best part, they are also easy on the pocket.

Parting Thoughts

Five categories and fifty lip balms later, I am still not over my love for them. These tiny bundles of hydration are my ride-or-die. If I have converted you into a lip balm girlie, then do check them out, these are some of my personal favourites.

FAQs

  1. What is a lip moisturiser balm?

Lip moisturising balms are wax or oil-like substances that are meant to hydrate and nourish dry, chapped lips, especially during the winter season when the weather is cold and the air is dry.

  2. How do I choose the best lip balm for dry lips?

If you have especially dry lips, look for hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, coconut oil, avocado oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter. These ingredients are natural humectants and nourish your lips from within.

  3. How often should I apply lip balm?

You can apply lip balms every 3–4 hours whenever you feel like your lips are starting to crack. Avoid over-moisturisation as they can create a dependency on products which are not good. During winters you can apply them more frequently since the air is dry and low on humidity, you can also apply it after meals, in flights, and in extremely air-conditioned spaces (like my office).

  4. Is lip balm safe to use daily?

Yes, lip balms are safe to use every day. But if you are an avid user, don’t use them more than twice a day. Overhydration can cause a dependency on products, and your lips will stop repairing themselves.

  5. What's the difference between lip balm and lip moisturiser?

A lip balm is essentially a moisturiser for the lips, but if you are looking to simply hydrate your lips without any fragrance or flavour, then you can opt for unscented lip balms such as the Minimalist 8% L-Ascorbic Acid Lip Treatment Balm that treats dry, pigmented lips.
