All thanks to content creator Alissa Janay – whose post garnered over 7.3 million views on TikTok – the beauty community was blessed with the prettiest trend this summer. Introducing #SunsetBlush, a makeup technique inspired by the warmth of the sun for a flushed, sunlit glow that mimics the smooth collusion of sky-burst reds and yellows.
Marrying vivid orange and pink pigments with a dash of highlighter, the gradient finish is reminiscent of a cascade of gold, orange, and pink sky as the sun sets along a tranquil beach. All you need are four dots of liquid pink and orange blush above the cheeks, paired with a generous sprinkle of shimmer highlighter. Curious to cop this trend far from the flushed effect one usually tries to achieve? Scroll on.
Tangerine Tint
While the founder of the trend opted for a liquid variant, we say pick a formula you’re most comfortable with. Begin by dabbing two dots of orange in a straight line along the cheekbone. We chose the Makeup Revolution Blush Bomb in the shade Glam Orange for a dewy, sunkissed finish. The creamy formulation is enriched with vitamin E and glides on for an effortless look and feel. Alternatively, you could opt for the Nudestix Nudies Matte All Over Face Blush Color in the shade Picante for a warm bronze tinge. Both picks promise rich pigment payoff and extended wear-time for day-long luminosity.
Fuchsia Flush
Now, turn to your pink blush – we’ve listed two of our favourites – and dot them, either along the same straight line or below the orange dots. India-proud Kay Beauty’s offering is a dusty rose pink in a mousse-like texture that blends seamlessly sans any streaks or blotches. Meanwhile, Pixi’s vitamin-enriched stick version is in a deeper, ruby shade, delivering a solid, pigmented flush. Both products are cruelty and paraben-free, ideal for use on the go.
Goddess Glow
Once you’ve dotted your orange and pink blush, dab or stroke some highlighter above these droplets, ensuring you don’t overlap the three formulations. Blend, blend, blend with a medium-sized fluffy or tapered brush or sponge – fingertips are my favourite – till you achieve a gradient, sunset finish. Consider lifting the products towards the temples for an unmistakable glow that lengthens the face.
Diam Beauty’s liquid variant in the shade Golden Hour is a non-clogging, buildable highlighter formulated with mindful ingredients for conscious consumers. It’s hydrating, nourishing, and oh-so-lightweight. Charlotte Tilbury’s Glowgasm Beauty Light Wand, on the other hand, boasts a velvety gel texture that plays beautifully with light to spotlight your best features. Both highlighters feature a cushion applicator to enhance skin luminosity.
Better yet, after endless scrolling, I came across the perfect ombré blush for a flattering sunset effect. Containing two powder-pressed tones in one compact, the hues can either be used separately or blended together for a customised shade. The Incolor Mermaid Glow blush in the shade 04 Strictly Chic will instantly lend a vibrant pop of colour to your look.
If you won’t be catching one of nature’s most breathtaking scenes on a tropical getaway this summer, recreate it on your face for the ultimate mood boost.
