LINE YOUR PRIDE
Don’t want to go overboard with the patriotism? The easiest, most understated way to make a statement is with a sweep of color on your eyes. Take advantage of the colored liner trend and use a soft kohl or liquid liner in blue, green or orange to create a cat-eye flick or softly smudged under-liner. To make your eyes really pop, leave the rest of the look basic with a sheer gloss and natural blush.
SAFFRON, NOT SORRY
If you’re not interested in going easy on the eyes, go big with an all-out saffron eyeshadow look. Sunset eyes have been having a huge moment, and no occasion calls for it more than the celebration of our country’s birth, don’t you think? Stun them with a gorgeous, saffron smokey on your lids, coupled with plenty of mascara and a nude lip.
THE PATRIOTIC POUT
Love your country? Pay it some lip service – the good way. If you prefer to make your statements via the pout and not the peepers, we’d suggest you wear a bold, orange lip and nothing else. You can play with shades and textures, from a moody burnt sienna to a glossy coral or in-your-face orange – just make sure to pick a shade that sits nicely on your skin-tone.
MARTYR FOR MONOTONE
Another subtle way to make the Pantone patriotic is to create an all-over coral look. Sure, it’s not saffron but it’s in the same shade family so you’re excused! Use a sun-kissed coral blush on the apples of your cheeks and eyelids, finished up with a deeper, orange-adjacent shade on your lips. PS: Make sure to use measured amounts of product and use different textures to add some dimension to the look.
EMPOWERED EMERALD
Nothing steals the night like smouldering, jewel-toned eyes, and you guessed right: green is a go for this one. There’s plenty of ways to play with this look – use an iridescent emerald as liner; wear a holographic swathe of mermaid green on your lids; amp up your flutter with green mascara or pay homage to the 80s’ dancing queens with glittery lids.
TRICOLOR TREATY
Pledge undying allegiance to your flag by daring to wear all or two of our country colors in a single look. Don’t worry – it won’t look as crazy as you think. Just make sure you go bare on the rest of the face, and color block with green or blue eyeliner and orange lipstick. If you’re too chicken to use two bright colors on your face, substitute the orange lipstick with a subtle peach or brick hue instead.
