When Dyson, a trendsetter in the beauty industry with their innovative use of technology, announced a new gizmo, we knew bad hair days would become a thing of the past. And after getting our hands on the expensive yet totally-worth-it Dyson Airwrap, we were certain we had a winner. Whether you sport short or long hair, if you’ve got limp, characterless tresses or if you’re a woman with crazy frizz, the Airwrap is a multi-styling tool that can curl, blow dry, smoothen and straighten your hair to suit your needs.
What are the different types?
The Dyson Airwrap has three different variants and, TBH, we’re in love with all of them. There’s the Volume and Shape that’s meant for finer hair, the Smooth and Control for thicker, textured, frizz-prone hair, and the Complete Set which includes all the brushes and barrels for all hair types. While the individual variants will set you back by Rs.34,000 each, the Set costs Rs.40,900 and, if you ask us, this price is not only worth it but is also a total steal.
How does it work?
If you’ve been doing your hair for years, you probably think you know the science behind it like the back of your hand. Think again. Dyson has redefined the existing technology and created a product that defies all the traditional norms of hair styling. The Dyson Airwrap is powered by the Dyson digital motor V9 which is powerful enough to produce the air pressure needed to create the Coanda effect. What is the Coanda effect, you ask? It’s an aerodynamic phenomenon that occurs when high-speed air in a cylinder creates a vortex. The Dyson Airwrap generates this spinning vortex of air around its barrel that gently attracts, wraps and curls hair. The Dyson Smoothing Brushes, on the other hand, use the same Coanda effect to attract hair to the surface of the brush and propel air along the hair strands aping a professional’s blow-drying method. Impressed? You should be.
What makes it so special?
1. It styles damp hair
The Dyson Airwrap is engineered to simultaneously style and dry hair by combing the water in your hair with a powerful airflow and controlled heat. This means no more wasting time blow drying your hair before you can get down to styling it. Of course, this doesn’t mean that your hair can be dripping wet. Though the Airwrap does come with a rough dryer attachment that will give you an air-dried look that we guarantee you’ll love. It’s quite the unsung hero, in our opinion.
2. It’s way less damaging than other hot tools
Styling your hair with heat causes the hydrogen bonds to reposition and reform keeping your hairdo in place which often resulting in hair damage and breakage. Not with the Dyson Airwrap. This tool with its heat settings measures the airflow temperature over forty times per second and transmits this data to the machines’ microprocessor which then intelligently controls the heating constantly maintaining the temperature under 150°C. It’s as effective as it is complicated, trust us.
3. It comes with multiple accessories
The Dyson Airwrap has a wand base that comes with a variation of attachments depending on the variant. The complete set has a pre-styling dryer, two smoothing paddle brushes, a round volumizing brush, and two curling barrels of different widths. That’s essentially six different tools that could totally replace your hair kit. As a bonus, all the variants come in this handy case to neatly store your Airwrap and all its numerous accessories.
4. It’s super easy to use
It may take a couple of tries to completely get the hang of it, but once you do it’s the best (and quickest) styling method ever. There’s no forehead burning, no knotting or singeing of hair and you’ll soon realise there’s not much you need to do except hold your hair at the correct angle. You can also quickly change attachments while styling your hair with its quick-release switch and cool-touch tip. For the newbies and the pros, this is a dream hair styler come true.
The result?
Jaw-dropping hair magic. Not only is your hair left feeling smooth and shiny, but it’s also extremely voluminous and bouncy. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself caressing your locks all through the day, you won’t be able to help yourself. And expect a LOT of compliments, including some questions on where you got your hair done. Our verdict: 5 stars
