6 Makeup Hacks You Need To Master A Look For Any Occasion

From chirpy lip colours and dewy skin to brilliant blue eyes and rosy cheeks, celebrity makeup artist Namrata Soni decodes the prettiest, trendiest spring-summer looks every girl should own.

Bright, Happy Lips

With flowers abloom everywhere you look, it’s the perfect time to wear bright lip colours. “There are some amazing lip crayons and lipsticks from brands at every price range, from L’Oreal Paris and Maybelline to NARS and Bobbi Brown,” says Namrata. “Just keep in mind that when you wear shades of red, orange, pink, or coral, don’t bother using lip liners underneath because they take away from the actual hue of the colour.”

Flirty, Sweeping Lashes

This timeless beauty trend really opens up your eyes and livens up your look. Namrata says clever gals save waterproof mascaras for parties and volumising and lengthening ones for daily wear. “Here’s a secret tip I use: Apply your favourite volumising and lengthening mascara to the TOP LASHES ONLY by wiggling the wand horizontally between the lashes. Repeat to really coat the lashes. As soon as the second coat dries, switch to a waterproof version and apply a third coat by holding the wand vertically and painting each lash with the tip. This seals everything like a nail polish top coat.” Namrata recommends applying the waterproof formula to the bottom lashes only, where volume isn’t required and mascara tends to travel and smear.

Healthy, Clear Skin

“Gorgeous skin starts from the inside out. I can’t stress enough the importance of drinking loads of water to banish skin problems. Don’t like regular water? Liven it up with lime or cucumber slices!” Namrata recommends using gentle facial cleansers like Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser or Neutrogena Deep Clean Facial Cleanser. Moisturising and using an eye cream in the a.m. and p.m. is a must for flawless skin. Choose from offerings from Cetpahil, Clarins or Sheseido depending on your skin type.” Finally, remember to apply sunscreen whether you’re outdoors or staying in. “I can’t stress enough how much your skin needs sun protection. Your skin (and you) will thank me 15 years later!

Dewy, Luminous Makeup

Her favourite look this spring-summer? Luminous skin with a rosy flush, well-groomed brows and a natural pout. “But don’t take the ‘no-make-up’ look too literally,” she says. Start with a primer to downplay pores and blemishes. Then groom your brows and curl lashes. Finally, add a blush of colour on cheeks and pretty up your pout with a dusty rose lipstick.”

Nykaa Recommends:

A Dash Of Blue Eyeliner

Eyeliner in every shade of aqua is the way to go. Bold, fun and flattering, stock up on all shades of blue from turquoise and aquamarine to marine blue and navy. “You could tightline your lower lashes in blue or dust it across the upper lid,” says Namrata. And frankly, after months of heavy, brooding, browns and smoky blacks, we couldn’t be happier.

Sport A Glow

“With all that colour on your face, it’s important to balance it out with a soft, dewy complexion and coral blush,” says Namrata. She recommends gel and cream blushes because “they glide onto skin, look dewy and last all day.” Dust on the apples of your cheeks under your foundation. Coral hues go with most Indian skin tones. For evening dos opt for a coral with golden undertones to give your cheeks a sexy gleam.”

Parting Thoughts

The best makeup looks are always the ones that don’t require a lot of products. A few simple products, a popping colour, and some shimmer are all you need for any event. From red-carpet-walking celebrities to everyday office looks, some blush, a drop of highlighter, and a pigmented lip, that’s it, even celebrity makeup artist – Namrata Soni agrees.
